Oftentimes, before a grant proposal is reviewed by an organization, individuals must first submit a grant pre-proposal, the first document that organizations will screen. A very short document, a pre-proposal serves to synthesize the aim of the intervention as well as the evidence supporting its purpose, necessity, and potential for success. The following is a grant pre-proposal that I wrote for a research intervention to help further elucidate how sexual orientation is determined in women (a population for whom this topic is severely understudied). The figure presented at the end of the document illustrates how sexual orientation is hypothesized to be determined within male mice, providing a basis for how sexual orientation may also be determined within female mice, and from this, potentially female mammals as a whole, including humans.
